The most anticipated cottage trip of the summer is almost here again – join us for a jolly weekend in the best company of fellow nation members!
The weekend’s programme includes sitsit, Cabin Olympics, dance parties, karaoke, relaxed hanging out, sauna, swimming, hot tubbing, and of course, meeting new and old friends from across the nations!
The indoor sleeping arrangements at Koivuniemi, which accommodate approximately 40 people, will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Most of the arrangements consist of bunk beds, with some single beds, some cots, and some mattresses. The sleeping arrangements are located in the upper floor of the house in rooms for 3 to 7 people, with additional sleeping options on the balcony. For accommodation, you will need your own bedding or sleeping bag – mattresses, pillows, and blankets are provided by the house.
You can also bring your own equipment – there is plenty of space for camping on the premises. CDSN will also provide a communal tent if the number of participants requires it! Koivuniemi also has a few communal sleeping bags and mats available.
Sitsit on Friday 9th August / cocktail reception at 19:30 / entrée at 20
The sitsit accommodates 50 participants, and a seat at the table costs 17 euros. The sitsit will be held outdoors on Friday, weather permitting. If the weather is particularly bad, an attempt will be made to move the sitsit to Saturday. If the weather is still unsuitable for the sitsit, food and drinks will be served indoors.
Participant details for the sitsit will be collected during registration. Payment will be made later through Kide.app.
Please note that if the number of participants for the sitsit reaches the limit, nation quotas may be applied to ensure inclusivity of all nations.
On Saturday and Sunday, breakfast will be served at a cost of 5 euros. Breakfast is also purchased through Kide.app.
Koivuniemi is located in Kanta-Häme, in Oitti, Hausjärvi. The exact address will be provided to participants via email.
The easiest way to travel from Helsinki using public transportation is to take a commuter train (R, D, or T) to Riihimäki and then transfer to the G train to Oitti. The train journey takes just over an hour, and a student ticket costs slightly over 6 euros each way for this route. The G train also operates from Lahti, but it’s more expensive and takes longer when departing from Helsinki. From Oitti train station, it’s approximately a 2.5-kilometre walk to Koivuniemi, which takes around 30–40 minutes on foot.
Near Oitti station, there is a medium-sized S-market, Finland’s smallest Alko, and a pharmacy near the station.
There will be a group departure to the cabin on Friday, taking the R-train departing at 16:06 from Helsinki Central Station (arriving in Oitti at 17:24). Those arriving with the group departure will receive car transport for their luggage and groceries departing from the Oitti S-market.
Koivuniemi is the summer place of Hämäläis-Osakunta, where the nation’s operations are moved during the summer months from June to August The activities and maintenance of the site are managed each summer month by a member of Hämäläis-Osakunta who has been hired as the summer host by the Häme Students Foundation.
Koivuniemi is without indoor toilets or showers, but nearly everything else is available:
Koivuniemi has four outhouses. Bathing is possible in the sauna, where hot water can be obtained from a wood-heated cauldron or by carrying it from the house.
The order and safety of the event are managed by the CDSN board together with the summer host. In the case of any harassment incidents or issues, you should first contact the members of the CDSN board, the CDSN harassment contact persons, or the summer host. You can also fill the online harrassment contact form (available in Finnish and Swedish). At Koivuniemi, we adhere to Hämäläis-Osakunta’s principles for a safer space.
Consumption of alcohol at the event is featured prominently, but one can participate in the event alcohol-free, and there is no pressure to drink alcohol.
Koivuniemi is not an accessible venue. The house has many stairs, thresholds, and narrow doorways. The terrain on the property has many elevation changes. There is no accessible toilet on the premises, nor is there a water toilet of any kind.
During the event, loud music and flashing lights may be used. The house’s walls do not effectively insulate sound, and noise from the downstairs easily carries to the upstairs bedrooms. There is no separate quiet room in the house, but the yard is spacious and peaceful.
